A relatively new scarless breast augmentation procedure also known as transumbilical breast augmentation or TUBA is becoming more and more popular these days. This minimally invasive procedure offers some advantages over other forms of breast augmentation surgery. However, few cosmetic or plastic surgeons are offering this surgical technique. Dr. Jacob Haiavy of Inland Cosmetic Surgery in Rancho Cucamonga is a good resource on information for this procedure.

The LA Times Business News reported today that 2nd quarter earnings rose for Allergan thanks to overseas sales of facial treatments, and prescription eye care products.
The LA Times piece says that “almost half of Allergan’s revenue comes from cosmetic treatments, led by Botox and breast implants, and investors have been concerned that consumers may use fewer of these products.”
Like many breast surgeons, Boston plastic surgeon Dr. Fouad Samaha does a lot of breast implants in Boston, and relies on both Allergan and Mentor breast implants. Allergan’s products compete directly with Mentor Corporation’s line of breast implants.

If you live in the Boston area and are considering breast implants, a great way to investigate a plastic surgeon is to go to an open house.
Events like this are low-pressure, lots of fun, and a great way to meet other patients who’ve already had breast implant surgery at the practice. You can meet the staff and the doctor outside the day-to-day clinical operations and ask all kinds of questions on your own time.
Boston plastic surgeon Dr. Fouad Samaha is having an open house on Thursday, June 19 at his new office in Quincy. Boston breast implant patients, investigate to your heart’s content.

Take it from Nikki Cox, Prevelle Silk (the new short-term filler from Mentor) might have been a wiser choice than whatever she just did to herself.

Who is she? She’s the 29-year-old actress who formerly starred on Las Vegas, and the wife of comedian Jay Mohr.
In the May 22 issue of Star Magazine, Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer commented that Ms. Cox likely had about 3 too many syringes of Juvederm injected into her lips, when one would have been plenty.
No one knows for sure what filler was used to overinflate Nikki’s face, but if you’re thinking of lip augmentation for the first time, do yourself a favor and go short term. Prevelle Silk is the latest hyaluronic to hit the market and it’s designed to be short term, for situations exactly like this.
While the media is attempting to analyze the appropriateness of Dr. Michael Salzhauer’s new book, it’s important to recognize a few things:
1. Dr. Salzhauer practices in South Florida - Bal Harbour to be precise. Plastic surgery is commonplace here, while in other parts of the country there is a very different mentality.
2. All this media attention is only selling more books, and now Dr. Salzhauer will not have to do as much surgery and will be able to raise his prices.
3. Dr. Salzhauer has a fantastic press agent.
4. Any mom who undergoes a cosmetic surgery to repair their abdomen from having kids or losing weight completely deserves to look and feel amazing.
5. It’s also possible to have surgery without telling kids exactly what’s going on.
The Today Show first interviewed a woman (not a Salzhauer patient) who clearly did not have the discretion to not tell her son that “they are going to cut me from one side to the other.”
Surgery isn’t going anywhere, in fact, it will only become more acceptable as time goes by.
As Matt Lauer interviews them, Dr. Salzhauer is clearly shocked that they’re attacking him at all - the book was really designed to communicate within his own culture of the Miami money set.

Skin Speaks Spa M.D. launched a new website over the weekend… like no other medical spa website we’ve ever seen.
They specialize in Fraxel and are a Platinum Botox provider with offices in Edina, Crystal, Robbinsdale, and the medical spa in Burnsville.
Skin Speaks is very popular in the area, thanks to their Botox Rewards program where repeat patients earn free Botox, and their great media presence with KARE 11 and KS95.
Here’s one of their videos:

This year’s ASLMS (American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery) conference began Wednesday, April 5 at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando. Most of the physicians who offer cosmetic laser treatments in the US will be in attendance to learn about the latest studies and recent developments in the cosmetic laser industry.
It’s the most important convention for the cosmetic laser field, because trends and technologies are discussed on a national scale, and the doctors learn what’s next for lasers. Many will purchase new capital equipment based on what they are told (or sold) at this meeting.
